CRUISERS ARE PERFECT FOR CHILL CITY RIDES AND SCENIC ROADS.

BONUS: THEY'RE EASY TO HANDLE AND BUDGET-FRIENDLY.

A DEEPER DIVE

If a cruiser feels right to you, you're likely looking for a motorcycle that feels approachable, comfortable, and confidence-boosting right from the start. A cruiser-style bike like the Yamaha V Star 250 offers a low seat height and relaxed, upright riding position. This style of motorcycle delivers classic styling and just enough power to feel fun without being too overwhelming.

It’s a great option for commuting, short rides, or scenic weekend cruises. If comfort, simplicity, and stability are top priorities, this is an excellent place to start your riding journey.

Below are 2 of my top recommendations for beginner cruisers.

YAMAHA V STAR 250

One of the best true beginner cruisers on the market. The V Star 250’s ultra-low 27-inch seat height makes it especially friendly for shorter riders and anyone who wants to feel completely planted at a stop. Its lightweight 249cc engine delivers smooth, predictable power that’s easy to manage while learning clutch control and low-speed skills. Another very comparable bike is the Suzuki TU250, commonly used in Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course. Bonus: because they've been around for years with a strong reputation for reliability, both are often available on the used market at very approachable prices.

HONDA REBEL 300

A modern cruiser that blends classic style with beginner-friendly performance. The Rebel 300 features a low 27.2-inch seat height and relaxed riding position, making it easy to flat-foot and feel confident from day one. Its 286cc single-cylinder engine offers a bit more punch than its predecessor the 250, while still being smooth and manageable for new riders. Bonus: Honda’s reputation for durability and low maintenance makes this a bike many riders confidently keep well beyond their first season.

YOU'VE GOT THE BIKE.

NOW LET'S BUILD THE RIDER.

Choosing the right motorcycle is Step 1. Most new riders learn through trial and error — an expensive and dangerous way to enter this sport.
